HantsAstro

About the Club

HantsAstro.org was a social concept founded by David Woods and Graham Green - two amateur astronomers who started this site and group back in March 2008, because we wanted to do more 'Modern Astronomy'. We wanted to learn using our own telescopes. We wanted change.

To date over 300 people have joined, and we have become the largest observing group in Hampshire, and one of the largest in the UK. Our exploits are also followed by over 50 countries, via this site, our publications and social media.

How did we do so well then? No stuffy constitutions, no overbearing committees, no cliques. Seriously, we tore up the rulebook and started from scratch. It's your Astronomy. We only have three rules, all of them based around you and playing nicely with others.

Joining is easy, no interviews, skills surveys no upfront fees. It's your hobby, and your time.

Our simple ethos speaks for itself.

We are an observing group and have no dedicated site or clubhouse but observe at various sites around Hampshire - mainly at Butser Ancient Farm twice a month, which we rent and is our main observing site, and Queen Elizabeth Country Park at least once a month, as well as Butser Hill (South Downs National Park) on an ad hoc basis.
